On a Pale Horse - Piers Anthony
Millicent Min, Girl Genius - Lisa Yee
    Gentle's Holler - Kerry Madden
What makes these books good (not all of the books have all of these qualities):
    Imperfect characters (they make mistakes)
    Timeless situations
    Strong female characters
    Good sense of family
    Some humor
    But also tenderness
A romance that's not overly mushy but is still present
    Magic
    A sense of atmosphere

I'm establishing this wiki for two reasons: first, to demonstrate to my students the kind of work I expect from them on their NaNoWriMo prep assignments, and second, to have one place where I can keep track of all of my novel notes. Feel free to follow along over the next couple of months as I prepare and write my novel!

I'm a school librarian. My student library assistants in Granville County, NC, are required to participate in National Novel Writing Month. It didn't seem fair to ask them to write a novel if I wasn't going to do it myself, so I am.

Lightning Thief. Percy was kicked out of five different schools just because weird things seemed to happen around him. It turns out Percy is so different because he's the son of one of the ancient Greek gods, who are still alive and well. And now, they're mad. Somebody has stolen Zeus's thunderbolt, the ultimate weapon - and made it look like Percy did it. Percy, of course, knows he didn't. Can Percy and his friends Annabel and Grover prove he didn't take it and find out who did, all before the summer solstice on June 21? Read The Lightning Thief to find out.
